Loop Cut

Loop Cut slices evenly spaced edge loops across a mesh along one axis. The shape and shading stay exactly the same; the mesh just gains edges where you need them. Use it to add rows to a plank before bending it, a middle loop on a box to extrude from, or extra edges on a wall. Each cut is a straight slice on the X, Y or Z axis, so it suits box-like shapes; stack two Loop Cuts for a grid.

Mesh

The mesh to cut.

Mesh

The same shape with the new edge loops. Its surface, shading and UVs are unchanged.

Parameter What it does Default
Axis Which axis the loops are spaced along. Each loop is a straight cut across the mesh, so it suits box-like shapes. Options: X, Y, Z Y
Count How many loops to add, spaced evenly. 1 puts one loop through the middle. 1
  • Subdivide: add resolution evenly in every direction.
  • PolyExtrude: push out the faces between your new loops.
  • Shape nodes: the other nodes that reshape a mesh.
